Dead End - my Sedition Wars vignette

With the Crystal Brush over, and now that I am back in the UK, I thought it was about time I posted up the completed photos of my diorama! The diorama category was ridiculously well attended at the competition, and I unfortunately didnt manage to place in the top three with this.... however, there was another category which looked at all the models entered into the whole competition focussed purely on narrative, and I was fortunate enough to win a Bronze in that category!

This was pretty important to me as it was the only diorama that placed in the Narrative category and for me, a diorama is all about the story telling. I may not have painted as well as the other three dioramas (2 of which came 1st and 2nd in the whole competition - the two big money prizes!) but I told a better story! :P

I managed to get it finished the day before leaving for Chicago after a massive mishap with the black edges to the base - when touching up the edges (where there was paint bleed) there was an obvious difference between what was brushed on vs what was originally sprayed. So I decided to hand paint all the sides, which didnt work as the paint was streaky gloss/matte. So I tried a different black paint. Same problem.... I went through this 4 times before giving up and spent a lot of time masking it up in reverse and spraying it black

Bingo! and here it is:

  1. Congrats. I love that piece and to me it was one of the best at Cbrush.
