Avelonian recruit

This bust by Alkemy/Kraken was my entry for the large scale (54mm and above) category in the Crystal Brush competition at Adepticon.

I think this may well be the best technical painting I have done and although I didnt receive an award for him at the show, I am still really pleased with the way he turned out. All acrylic and 100% brush painted, I was pretty chuffed with the smoothness of the flesh tones in particular, but I also like the way the painting has helped emphasise the haunted look on his face.

Dead End - my Sedition Wars vignette

With the Crystal Brush over, and now that I am back in the UK, I thought it was about time I posted up the completed photos of my diorama! The diorama category was ridiculously well attended at the competition, and I unfortunately didnt manage to place in the top three with this.... however, there was another category which looked at all the models entered into the whole competition focussed purely on narrative, and I was fortunate enough to win a Bronze in that category!

And now for something completely different... a Wight King

As a bit of an aside from the diorama, which is pretty much done btw, I decided to have a little play with one of Games Workshop's newer releases - the Wight King.

This is a plastic kit - a new style one packed in a blister, and it was an absolute joy to work with! This should be the way forward for GW kits in my opinion - very few mould lines, a 'layered' build which means it has loads of undercuts (which you usually miss in plastic) and a lovely level of detail without it being too overcrowded.

Sharro and other WIPs shot

Sharro is nearly complete now (yay!), but these photos have shown me a few areas which need a little more work (namely the left side of the face as we look at it and a few other things like her shoes). I have kept the orange and white scheme (it makes a change for me not to reinvent the model half way through with this project...!).

I have also just realised her hand in the air is supposed to be a glove - I thought it was just a poor cast. Might have to do something about that... and the forearm on the other hand is covered by an arm band too... And her eye-brows look huuuuuge in the pics - I thing some of that is the shadow from her brow, but it is something which needs to be fixed!
