What else I have been working on - Barbarian

I've also been working on something else a bit more in my comfort zone (who's yawning at the back?!). This is one of two barbarians I am painting for JoeK Minis. The photos aren't great - I need to work on the white balance on my camera again for the blue-white background (I think I might have accidentally left it set for the black background).

I have been really trying to push the contrast in my metallics and in the photo below I have taken the colour from Leadbelcher (the new boltgun metal) down to black and I will bring it right up to a bright Vallejo Model Air silver who's name escapes me.

Some new Dropzone Commander piccies

Right the weekend has passed, far too quickly as usual, and here I am back again!

As promised, here are some more photos of the diorama as it is now. I ended up spending a lot of time faffing with the colours of the cliff face as it seemed to seem far too blue against the brassiness of the door. It goes to show how black paint really isn't true black - the cliff had been painted in a mix of black and white paint!

A quick Dropzone Commander update

This is a really quick mobile phone photo... The colour is shot to pieces on the cliff face, but it gives you quite a nice view of the contrast between the Enyo siege walker and the natural surroundings. The colour of the previous photo was much more accurate... this one has a strange green cast over it - the back wall should be yellow.

I will try and get some decent photos this weekend with the troopers attached and hopefully the groundwork almost complete!

Dropzone Commander - Painting the base

Just a quick update on my Dropzone Commander project.

Last weekend I started to slap some paint onto the base. I have blocked in the main shadows/highlights on the cliff face and started to work on the huge ornate and now brass door. There is going to be some serious weathering and verdigris on the door and scorch-marks on the surrounding cliff.

1st Anniversary of the Bodgers Blog

Wow, doesnt time fly? The first post on this blog was 1 year ago today... I can hardly believe it!

My first few posts were very tentative "hopefully I can keep this blogging malarkey up", and now we are 12 months on and I think I've managed it. I don't entirely know how interested people are in what I have to say, but in that time (according the the blogger stats) I have had 11,507 pageviews, and now have 60 followers (Hello to CMDante who just joined).

Pretty awesome weekend

Wow, what a weekend... 650 miles on the clock, but most definitely worth it!

It all started on Friday when I started my long trek 'up country' to Mansfield. I decided to take a slight detour to my parents place and stayed there Friday night, which halved the driving I'd need to do on the Saturday morning (only 2 hours driving - yay!). And why was I heading to Mansfield from deepest darkest Devon?

Dropzone Commander mountain stronghold

I've been working more on my Dropzone Commander (DzC) scene, and psoting a few bits on Beasts Of War, but here is an update for you guys - a step by step set of photos of the build of the base starting from a section of 100mm waste pipe, and finishing with a team of Immortals storming a mountain stronghold under the watchful eye of 2 Enyo siege walkers.

I must say, 10mm is a lovely scale and I don't think I would have been able to produce a scene in such 'epic' (no pun intended) proportions in 30mm. Take a look:
