Dropzone Commander Diorama Finished!

And its done...!

Painting 10mm models was quite a new experience for me and despite a few issues along the way, I am really quite pleased with the way this little scene turned out. I had a few learning experiences along the way - such as white is really tricky and painting long smooth gradients is very difficult without an airbrush! If you want to see the build of this vignette or any other Dropzone Commander posts, then follow this link.

Dropzone Commander diorama nearly done

More pics... getting there slowly but surely! I have a deadline for the end of the week, but fret not, the dropship is pretty much done, just needs some weathering, and the legs of walker number two are at a similar stage, so its not going to be a problem.

I intend to add some more foliage of different types to the cliff face - maybe some to represent small trees. I just need to work out how to effectively apply chipping to 10mm figures... very small bits of sponge on the end of a cocktail stick I guess!

Some new Dropzone Commander piccies

Right the weekend has passed, far too quickly as usual, and here I am back again!

As promised, here are some more photos of the diorama as it is now. I ended up spending a lot of time faffing with the colours of the cliff face as it seemed to seem far too blue against the brassiness of the door. It goes to show how black paint really isn't true black - the cliff had been painted in a mix of black and white paint!

A quick Dropzone Commander update

This is a really quick mobile phone photo... The colour is shot to pieces on the cliff face, but it gives you quite a nice view of the contrast between the Enyo siege walker and the natural surroundings. The colour of the previous photo was much more accurate... this one has a strange green cast over it - the back wall should be yellow.

I will try and get some decent photos this weekend with the troopers attached and hopefully the groundwork almost complete!

Dropzone Commander - Painting the base

Just a quick update on my Dropzone Commander project.

Last weekend I started to slap some paint onto the base. I have blocked in the main shadows/highlights on the cliff face and started to work on the huge ornate and now brass door. There is going to be some serious weathering and verdigris on the door and scorch-marks on the surrounding cliff.

1st Anniversary of the Bodgers Blog

Wow, doesnt time fly? The first post on this blog was 1 year ago today... I can hardly believe it!

My first few posts were very tentative "hopefully I can keep this blogging malarkey up", and now we are 12 months on and I think I've managed it. I don't entirely know how interested people are in what I have to say, but in that time (according the the blogger stats) I have had 11,507 pageviews, and now have 60 followers (Hello to CMDante who just joined).

Dropzone Commander mountain stronghold

I've been working more on my Dropzone Commander (DzC) scene, and psoting a few bits on Beasts Of War, but here is an update for you guys - a step by step set of photos of the build of the base starting from a section of 100mm waste pipe, and finishing with a team of Immortals storming a mountain stronghold under the watchful eye of 2 Enyo siege walkers.

I must say, 10mm is a lovely scale and I don't think I would have been able to produce a scene in such 'epic' (no pun intended) proportions in 30mm. Take a look:

Dropzone Commander

I recently mentioned a new set of models by Hawk Wargames for their new Dropship Commander game, and frothed a bit about how much I loved the aesthetic of the miniatures... well today I can give you a closer look at some of the Post Human Republic miniatures as I have picked up a small number of pre-releases to paint for Hawk Wargames. They are all production casts, so exactly what you will get in the boxes/blisters (I don't know which), but with none of the official packaging (so I can't comment on that).

Now, I knew these were going to be resin, but I didn't realise they were going to be injection moulded plastic/resin. This stuff is similar to the sort of thing Reaper, Trollforged and Avatars of War have started using, and yes, also similar to Games Workshop's Finecast. However, from what I've seen so far, the quality is far higher than Finecast, and the details are so very crisp and clean.

New miniature company, and the 10mm scale... Dropzone Commander

I am predominantly a painter of 28mm+ wargames miniatres, but I dabble in some of the larger scales - 1:20 scifi, 1:10 busts and the odd 54mm/75mm figure. I would normally dismiss anything smaller than 28mm out of hand due to my perception that the models will be a) less impressive and b) less detailed than a 28mm counterpart.

It appears I may have been wrong... Check these out
